Our dentists, Dr. Askowitz and Dr. Paralta, strongly encourage you to clean and care for your smile regularly, even when you’re sick. Whether you believe it or not, your smile can be affected while you’re ill, which could lead to one or more dental problems. You don’t want to worry about dental problems on top of your runny nose, sore throat and cough, right? So, our dentist encourages you to keep your smile in tip-top shape when you’re sick by doing the following things:
-Brush and floss often: Cleaning your teeth and gums regularly can help you eliminate the harmful substances that reside on your teeth and gumline and threaten the smile, so make sure to brush twice a day and floss once a day. When you recover from your sickness, make sure to replace your toothbrush as soon as possible so you don’t risk getting sick again.
-Drink a lot of liquid: Drinking liquid throughout the day can help you wash your mouth from bacteria and even help you prevent dry mouth. Dry mouth is a problem that causes cavities and bad breath. So, keep water with you and drink it when possible.
-Choose sugar-free medication: Whether you believe it or not, sugary medication can promote cavities, so it’s best to stick to sugar-free medication. If this isn’t possible, make sure to rinse your mouth with water and brush your teeth after taking the sugary medicine.
